An Attitude of Gratitude

Every year thanksgiving rolls around and suddenly we are supposed to be instantly thankful. We sit around the dining room table and state what were thankful for and often times we go on with our lives as they were prior to the holiday: chaotic and cluttered. However, what if instead we were grateful year round? What is we possessed an attitude  of thankfulness each and every day?

Tonight at my church we handed out over 70 thanksgiving baskets to those who couldn't afford to purchase a full turkey dinner. We had nearly 2,000 dollars in cash donated in addition to the 45 turkeys donated and the countless canned veggies. I look forward to this event every year. There is something so impactful about this giveaway. It brings me back to focus and alters my perception of people. When you see a single mother crying with gratitude upon receiving a basket, you suddenly realize that there is so much more to life than material things. The principal, "it is better to give than to receive", is a concept that speaks volumes. Often times I get caught up in life's flurries and forget perhaps the most essential Christian value: giving. So this thanksgiving the greatest thing we could possibly do, is adopt an attitude of gratitude, because that seemingly insignificant change can make a world of difference in our lives and the lives of those we encounter each and every day.

Have a blessed thanksgiving!
